Magnetoreception and the ruling hypothesis

This paper is fascinating.  This site has always been sceptical about Magnetoreception – the magnetic navigation story for the same reasons that are discussed here.  No-one has found the magnetic receptors. the cryptochrome story requires conditions in the eye that are not conducive to quantum effects and knowing where North is does not help without a map showing where you are and where you are going so giving you the required bearing for navigation.

Inclination compasses are very inaccurate as there can be huge changes locally due to…

On 30th March 2015, Richard Silberstein gave a presentation to the Science Medical Network on “Universal Consciousness”: Mystics of various religious and spiritual traditions have, on occasion, described a mystical realisation as that of the entire universe’s conscious. In this talk, he described some novel parapsychological studies that may shed light on the question of whether consciousness constitutes an…

At RIN11 Ingo Schiffner gave his presentation Mathematical Analysis of Pigeon Tracks (the characterisation of the underlying navigational process). He analysed 167 tracks with birds navigating from four different locations and from two different directions. His theory is that pigeons navigate using at least four different components and these components change over the course of…
